# 7.1.2 Burning Mechanisms for $WHL

As mentioned previously, already users around the globe are burning WHL for obtaining in-app discounts on real world services and digital ones like metaverse land. Also, the digital collectibles program has been a valuable burning mechanism (20% of total WHL emissions through May 2023 were burnt by users obtaining the first digital collectibles).

Over time the objective is to build WheelCoin into a global, interoperable “air miles of green mobility” loyalty program allowing players to spend $WHL outside of the WheelCoin app. This would allow users to also sell their $WHL reward token to organizations or users seeking to use $WHL as an eco-credit, similar to a carbon offset.
